There’s a place in Japan where a castle that was built over 1,350 years ago is still standing today, just as it was back then. This place is hidden from sight, unless you travel to a certain island of Japan and venture deep into the mountains.
Many important historical events have occurred on the island of Tsushima, located in the middle of the sea route connecting Japan and the Korean Peninsula, such as the Mongol invasions of Japan and the Russo-Japanese War. Aside from its history in times of war, the island is a waypoint for travelers who have brought with them elements of culture such as Buddhism and kanji ideograms.
Indeed, Tsushima is a place that can be described as the origin of Japan.
Situated in the center of this island, Kaneda Fortress is known to be the greatest of the ancient hilltop castles.
Since ancient times, this castle has watched over the unfolding history of Japan from its mountaintop locale.

現在・明治期（日露戦争）・築城時（７世紀）３時代の金田城を見ることができます。
This tour shows Kaneda Fortress in three different eras: the present, the Meiji era (Russo-Japanese War), and the time in which the castle was built (in the seventh century).
- ①ホーム画面からスポットを選びます。
Select the spot to view from the home screen.
- ②時代や目線の高さを切り替えることができます。
You can switch between eras and perspectives to view.
- ③マウスやタッチで画面を動かしながら360度のパノラマを見ることができます。
Move the VR image using your mouse or finger on the touch screen to view the 360º panorama.
- ④スポットの切替えは左側のメニューもしくはホーム画面からできます。
You can change the spots to view from the menu on the left side or from the home screen.

ABOUT KANEDA FORTRESS
金田城とは
667年に築造された古代の山城。岩山を取り囲むように、延長２.２キロの長い石塁が残っています。
石垣にはいくつかの「城戸（きど）」と呼ばれる出入口があり、10世紀頃まで防人が護っていました。
日露戦争（1904～1905年）に備え、建築に必要な軍道が整備され、1901年に城山砲台が完成しました。
トレッキングに適した軍道からの眺めは抜群で、今なお当時の姿を遺す石塁・砲台を間近で見ることができる貴重な場所です。
Kaneda Fortress is an ancient castle that was constructed in the year 667. The castle was built inside a long wall of stones that extends for 2.2 km around the rocky mountainside. The stone wall features several entrances and exits (kido), which were protected by the Sakimori until around the 10th century.
In preparation for the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905), the military access roads necessary for construction were prepared, and the Jouyama battery was completed in 1901.
The military access roads offer spectacular views and are particularly suitable for trekking. This castle is a place that gives visitors an up-close look at the stone walls and artillery battery, just as they once were.

Sightseeing Information Center Fureaidokoro Tsushima in the middle of the city features a diorama that reproduces the entire picture of Kaneda Fortress in painstaking detail, and offers AR-driven exhibits that combine dioramas and animations of Kaneda Fortress for your enjoyment.
Afterwards, you can trek to Mt. Jouyama and access the link to watch the special movie featuring an item at the summit.
